Speaking literally, the bass was my first instrument for several years, and was the one I started my professional career with. I played bass in my father's band when I was still at school, appearing at venues all across Norfolk. I am glad to be able to bring this experience into use by teaching bass as well as guitar, from beginner to Grade 8.

While there is a certain thrill to be had by launching into a guitar solo, it is just as satisfying to underpin a band with a solid bassline, locked in tightly with the drums. In many ways, a bass player has to be even more aware of the harmonic content of the song they are playing than the guitarist, so I make sure that music theory is a key component of my bass teaching.

As with the guitar, the Rockschool syllabus from Debut Grade to Grade 8 is used as the backbone text of the teaching.
